Valve moves the launch of Steam Deck to February

Valve has delayed the sending of the first units of Steam Deck, its portable machine, due to the global shortage of materials. It was expected that the first reserved units will reach their owners in December, but finally it will not begin to be sent until February 2022, as explained by the company in an email sent to people who have a reservation.

The idea is that each buyer keeps his position in the shipping queue; The first will continue to be the first, I mean, although the new estimated dates should be already updated in each specific case.

On the Steam Deck website, the statement developed a little more, emphasizing «The problems in the global supply chain :

Although we have done everything possible to take into account the problems in the global supply chain (with which we refer to that we calculate an extra time to take these risks into account, and we work with multiple component providers), our manufacturing plans Even, so they have been impacted. The shortage of materials and delays result in the components have not reached our manufacturing facilities on time. The missing parts together with logistics challenges result in the delay of Steam Decks, so we need to move the shipment two months, until February. We will continue working to improve the dates of reservations based on the new dates, and we will keep you informed as we move forward.

Valve Has Delayed The Release Of The Steam Deck

Valve is not the only company that has been affected by these problems, of course: Sony is also having problems manufacturing sufficient PlayStation 5, for example, according to a recent Bloomberg article.

Steam Deck was announced in mid-July, and wants to be a kind of hybrid between console and laptop. Although it is a hardware designed for Steam and your games, the idea is that you can install any Software of PC; It looks more like a WIN GDP than to a switch, ultimately.
